Cookie Policy

What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a text file created by your browser to support website functions like authentication and personal preferences.  A cookie is not a piece of software and cannot look at any information on your computer.  A cookie cannot install software (malware, viruses) on your computer.

Wikipedia explains a cookie:

"An HTTP cookie (also called web cookie, Internet cookie, browser cookie or simply cookie), is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in the user's web browser while the user is browsing. Every time the user loads the website, the browser sends the cookie back to the server to notify the user's previous activity.[1] Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember stateful information (such as items added in the shopping cart in an online store) or to record the user's browsing activity (including clicking particular buttons, logging in, or recording which pages were visited in the past)."

    • The authenticated cookie lets us know when to display information that is intended for members only.
  • Functionality
    • LSN uses cookies to provide application functionality.  In order preserve previous keyword searches, previously selected cities and the like, those records are stored in a cookie.
  • Application State
    • We want to make sure you have the best experience when using LSN, so we store data that helps us make sure that you have the latest resources.

Third party cookies

LSN utilizes Google Analytics to understand traffic on the LSN.com website.  Google creates a cookie to link pageviews and visits together to provide reports to us about how the website is being used so that we can gauge performance and make improvements.  Only Google stores the cookies and makes use if the information in it. Google's privacy policy is available at: http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

Advertising cookies

LSN uses third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

Advertisers use cookies to perform "interest based advertising".  These cookies are used to gather information about how an individual uses the internet to predict what ads would be most effective to show to the website visitor.  If a visitor is interested in sports, he/she will likely be targeted by sporting goods companies.

Because LSN publishes advertisements from Google and other interest based advertiser networks, you will likely see advertisements that are tailored to reflect your interests.  If would like to see what NAI (Network Advertising Initiative) companies are customizing ads for you, you can do so at the link below.  You will also have the opportunity to opt out of taylored ads from those companies.

You also have choices with respect to cookies. By modifying your browser preferences, you have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. If you choose to reject all cookies you will be unable to use those services of the LSN Classifieds that require registration in order to participate.
